Kenya & Tanzania

Two Countries, One Uninterrupted Wilderness

Destination Overview

About Kenya & Tanzania

There is no fence on the plain. The wildebeest that cross the Mara River in July don't know they've left Tanzania, and the elephants moving beneath Kilimanjaro's southern slopes don't pause at the line on the map that separates Amboseli from the mountain looming over it. Kenya and Tanzania were one ecosystem long before they were two countries, and the best safaris here are the ones that treat them that way.

We build private itineraries that move between both, the Maasai Mara's open grassland and its front-row seat to the Migration's river crossings, paired with the Serengeti's vastness and the Ngorongoro Crater's density of game; Amboseli's herds framed against Kilimanjaro's snowline, paired with a climb of the mountain itself for travellers who want to stand on it rather than simply admire it from below. The logistics of crossing between the two, border formalities, transfers, timing a circuit around where the herds actually are that month, are the part we handle so you never have to think about them.

This isn't two safaris stitched together. It's one journey, planned as a whole, across the wilderness both countries were built around.

Destination Highlights

  • One Migration, Two Countries: Follow the wildebeest herds across the Mara River crossings in Kenya and the calving plains of the southern Serengeti in Tanzania — a single circuit, timed to the season
  • The Maasai Mara & Serengeti, as One Ecosystem: Cross an invisible border between two of Africa's greatest reserves, with private conservancies on both sides offering game drives not permitted in the national parks themselves
  • Kilimanjaro, From Every Angle: Watch elephant herds move beneath Africa's highest peak from Amboseli, then climb it — or simply admire it from the northern Tanzania plains on the same trip
  • Two Countries, One Set of Logistics: Border crossings, internal flights, and timing are planned as a single itinerary — you experience one seamless journey, not two separate trips
  • Private Conservancies Either Side of the Border: Community-run conservancies in both countries permit night drives and walking safaris that the national parks themselves don't allow
  • A Circuit Built Around the Season, Not the Border: We route each itinerary to wherever the wildlife is that month, regardless of which country that happens to be in

Seasonal Guide

When to Visit Kenya & Tanzania

July – October & January – March

July to October: The Mara River Crossings

The Migration reaches the Maasai Mara, and river crossings — the single most dramatic wildlife spectacle either country offers — happen with the greatest frequency. Dry-season visibility is at its best on both sides of the border.

January to March: Calving Season in the South

The herds move back into Tanzania's southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains to calve, drawing predators into the open with them. Quieter than the Mara crossings, and just as rewarding.

November to June: The Green Season

Fewer visitors, dramatic skies, and newborn wildlife across both countries. Camps offer better value, and birdlife is at its richest — a strong option for travellers prioritising a quieter trip over the river crossings themselves.
