Destination Overview

About Tanzania

There is a moment, somewhere on the Serengeti's endless plain, when the grass runs gold to the horizon and nothing moves except a lion, unhurried, reading the wind. It is the moment every safari traveller is quietly hoping for, and Tanzania offers it more consistently, and across more varied terrain, than almost anywhere else on the continent.

This is the birthplace of safari as an idea, a country built around the rhythm of the Great Migration, the crater walls of Ngorongoro, and wilderness so vast that entire ecosystems move through it uninterrupted. From the short-grass plains where wildebeest calve by the hundred thousand, to the ancient baobabs of Tarangire and the white sand of Zanzibar at journey's end, Tanzania rewards travellers who give it room to unfold.

Every itinerary we build here is private and paced around your travelling party alone — never a shared vehicle, never a fixed departure date. We select camps we know personally, plan game drives around the specific movements of the season, and shape each day around what you've come to see.

This is not a country you tick off. It's one you return to.

Destination Highlights

  • Home to the Great Migration: Witness over a million wildebeest and zebra move through the Serengeti in one of nature's largest wildlife spectacles
  • The Ngorongoro Crater: An intact volcanic caldera holding one of Africa's densest concentrations of wildlife, including the rare black rhino
  • Africa's Big Five, Reliably: Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino are all findable within a single well-planned circuit
  • Kilimanjaro on the Horizon: Africa's highest peak anchors the northern circuit, climbable or simply admired from Amboseli-adjacent plains
  • Zanzibar as a Natural Finale: White sand, Swahili history, and the Indian Ocean pair naturally with an inland safari
  • Private Conservancies & Walking Safaris: Beyond the national parks, community conservancies offer night drives and walking safaris not permitted elsewhere

Seasonal Guide

When to Visit Tanzania

June – October & December – February

June to October: Peak Wildlife Season

The dry season concentrates wildlife around remaining water sources and offers the clearest visibility across the plains. This is also when the Migration's dramatic Mara River crossings typically occur in the north. Booking well ahead is essential.

November to May: The Green Season

Dramatic afternoon storms, newborn wildlife, and spectacular birdlife define this quieter period. Camps offer exceptional value, and the short-grass plains south of the Serengeti fill with calving wildebeest from January through March

December to February: Calving Season

The southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains host the Migration's calving grounds, with predator action at its most concentrated as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest give birth within a few short weeks.
